We’ve lived in Cardston for over 20 years now.
If you're considering a move to southern Alberta, Cardston is one of the most unique and welcoming communities in the province.
As local real estate agents with Maxwell Realty, Aimee and I have helped many families relocate to the area and discover why so many people fall in love with this beautiful little town.
Whether you're searching for Cardston real estate, an acreage in Cardston County, or simply exploring your options, here are a few reasons people choose to call Cardston home.
1. A Strong Sense of Community
One of the first things people notice when they move to Cardston is the strong sense of community. Neighbours know each other, people look out for one another, and it’s a wonderful place to raise a family. Cardston is the kind of place where people still wave when they drive by and community events bring everyone together.
2. Close to Waterton Lakes National Park
Cardston is located less than an hour from Waterton Lakes National Park, one of the most beautiful places in Canada. Many people looking at Cardston Alberta real estate love the idea of having hiking, fishing, boating, and incredible mountain scenery so close to home.
3. Affordable Housing Compared to Larger Cities
Compared to cities like Calgary or even Lethbridge, Cardston real estate is still relatively affordable. Buyers can often find larger homes, acreages, and quiet neighbourhoods for significantly less than they would pay in bigger urban centres.
4. Great for Families
We’ve raised our children here for over 20 years and we know the following is SO true: Cardston is known for being a family-friendly community with great schools, sports programs, and safe neighbourhoods. Many families who move here say they love the slower pace of life and the opportunity for their children to grow up in a supportive, safe environment.
5. Acreage Living in Cardston County
Many buyers are also interested in Cardston County real estate, where you can find beautiful acreages with mountain views, open space, and plenty of room to enjoy country living. Acreage properties are very popular with buyers who want privacy and the freedom that rural living provides, and there are some gorgeous areas just minutes out of Cardston.
6. A Slower Pace of Life
Life in Cardston moves at a comfortable pace. For many people relocating from larger cities, this is one of the biggest attractions. There’s less traffic, less stress, and more opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and spend time with family.
7. Growing Interest in the Area
With continued interest in Southern Alberta living, we are seeing more buyers exploring homes for sale in Cardston and Cardston County. People are discovering that Cardston offers a great lifestyle while still being within driving distance of Lethbridge and the U.S. border. We even have a U.S. mailbox in Babb, Montana, as many people in Cardston do. We like it because if we buy something on Amazon and they don’t ship to Canada, or it’s kinda pricey to ship to Canada, we just get it sent to the Post Office and go get it. It’s about 15 minutes to the U.S. border, and about another 15 minutes to Babb. In addition, there is a Kinek Delivery location just outside of Babb for larger packages. It costs anywhere from $5.00 to $15.00 USD or sometimes more to pick up a package, depending on the weight and size. Kinek is a great option that our family utilizes often.
