We know you’ve been thinking about it. You’ve probably been thinking about it for longer than you’d like to admit.
Maybe it started as a passing thought on a Sunday afternoon when the house felt a little too big and a little too quiet. Maybe it was after a winter that was harder than usual to manage. Maybe your kids have gently mentioned it once or twice, and you changed the subject, and they haven’t pushed, and you’ve been grateful for that — and also, quietly, a little aware that they had a point.
We write this with genuine care, because we’ve sat across the table from a lot of people in exactly this spot.
Here’s what we want you to know.
You are not behind. You are not doing anything wrong by taking your time. This is your home, and your decision, and your life — and you get to move at the pace that feels right to you.
And also: the part you’re putting off? The hard part — the sorting, the packing, the decisions, the emotions, the logistics — it is almost never as hard as the anticipation of it. Almost everyone we’ve walked through this process has said some version of the same thing on the other side: That was easier than I expected. I wish I’d started sooner.
You don’t have to have it figured out to make a call. You don’t have to know what you want to do next, or have a plan in place, or have cleared out the basement. You just have to be willing to have an honest conversation with someone who has done this before and genuinely wants good things for you.
